As of Friday, July 29, 2016, it is official: There will be no Justice for Jack Yantis.

On November 1, 2015, rancher Jack Yantis from Council, Idaho, was shot 12 times and killed by Adams County Sheriff Deputies Brian J. Wood and Cody Roland.

The Idaho Statesman reports that “State and federal prosecutors in Idaho say there is insufficient evidence to convict the two Adams County sheriff’s deputies involved in the fatal shooting Nov.

Alaska on fire – real-time tracking!

A researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has created a map to help track Alaska’s many wildfires.

As of Tuesday, 502 fires have swept across Alaska, burning nearly 400,000 acres of land, according to the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center.

Human-caused fires account for more than half of the blazes, but those fires have burned less than 9,000 acres.

Lightning caused the remaining fires (except one, which has no cause listed), which have burned the vast majority of land — more than 384,000 acres.

Republican Party Platform Adopts Transfer of Public Lands Language

This week has been an exciting one for the Transfer of Public Lands movement as it has now been adopted into the language of the 2016 National GOP Platform as citizens throughout the country are recognizing that the health, sustainability and welfare of our lands, as well as our people, are dependent upon it.

Fear-mongers, desperate to maintain their power and control over the west have been frantically publishing articles with the same nonsense they have been spewing for years, claiming that the Republican party wants to do away with National Parks and Public Lands.

Nearly half of Nevada’s population lives in areas of high wildfire risk

A changing climate could increase the risk of large wildfires in states across the West, including Nevada, which has seen relatively mild wildfire activity in the past. That’s according to a report from nonprofit organization Climate Central, which expects Nevada will add 20 days of annual high wildfire potential by 2050, the fifth-largest increase among the 11 Western states included in the study.

Rising temperatures, increasingly parched landscapes and changes to the snowpack are contributing to the regional trend, argues the wildfire report released last month.
