Presently in Idaho there is great concern and public demonstration against federal lands coming under state control. The objections are reasonable. Let’s discuss the issue.

In 2015 Boise State University conducted a state survey in which 56.3 percent of Idahoans favored state management over federal management if it didn’t cost taxpayer dollars.

The objections I continually encountered while in the Legislature and from people across the state were basically these: 1- It would cost Idaho too much to fight a major fire.

US Senate votes to overturn Obama rule on public lands management

The federal government is taking the first small steps toward rolling back some of the harm that Obama has done as it regards perpetuating the War on the West. While there is much more to do, the repeal of this BLM rule is a blow to the fake ‘sportsman’ groups run by radical environmentalists who want to shut down all productive uses of federal lands.

Nevada Rancher Ordered To Pay Nearly $600k For Cattle That Grazed On Federal Land A Decade Ago

A U.S. federal court ordered a rancher to pay $587,000 in grazing fees accrued more than ten years ago, and has banned the rancher from using the federal land.

Wayne Hage, who inherited the fight with the federal government from his father who died in 2006, said he will appeal the fine and the order that prevents him from grazing livestock on U.S. Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management property, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

GOP Natural Resources Committee Chairman seeks $50M to transfer federal land

Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah), the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, is asking budget writers to set aside $50 million to account for the costs to transfer federal land to state or local governments.

The Hill reports:

In his request, Bishop argued that “poorly managed federal lands create a burden for surrounding states and communities.”

He reasoned that divesting the federal government of its land would be good for the federal budget.

BLM delays oil-drilling leases near Zion National Park

The Bureau of Land Management is giving the public another month to weigh in on a controversial proposal to issue oil and gas leases west of Zion Canyon after the National Park Service raised concerns about potential drilling on Zion National Park’s periphery.

No federal land is under lease in Washington County and critics fear that selling leases would open the door to drilling on the doorstep of one of the nation’s most visited parks and the crown jewel of Utah’s “Mighty Five.”

Worries have surfaced in nearby communities of Springdale, Rockville and Virgin over the potential impact of industrial development on a vibrant tourism economy.
