Ken Andrus: Transfer of federal land to state control

Presently in Idaho there is great concern and public demonstration against federal lands coming under state control. The objections are reasonable. Let’s discuss the issue.

In 2015 Boise State University conducted a state survey in which 56.3 percent of Idahoans favored state management over federal management if it didn’t cost taxpayer dollars.

The objections I continually encountered while in the Legislature and from people across the state were basically these: 1- It would cost Idaho too much to fight a major fire.

Rep. Heather Scott Seeks Reconciliation – Asks House Leadership to work with all Representatives

Representative Heather Scott issued the following statement ahead of the January 18 Republican Caucus Meeting.

“There is a pressing need for the House to bring about reconciliation that is badly needed and that, I trust, we all desire. Allowing the circumstances surrounding me to spin further out of control will not serve the interests of the House or the people of Idaho. Our constituents deserve better than for us to continue being sidetracked by things that don’t affect them.”

“In retrospect, I should have chosen my words more carefully.

The 2018 Primary Election may seem like it’s a long way off, but Brad Little has already announced his intention to be the establishment’s choice for Idaho Governor. Who will the conservatives choose to take him on, former State Senator Russ Fulcher who challenged incumbent Governor Butch Otter in 2014 or Idaho’s 1st District Congressman Raúl Labrador? The stakes have never been higher with the future of Idaho hanging in the balance.

Idaho Land Board plans to buy more timberland and farmland

The Idaho Land Board (officially the State Board of Land Commissioners) voted unanimously last week to consider strategic acquisitions of timberland and, on a more limited basis, farmland, with proceeds from the sale of residential cottage sites and commercial properties.

The Clearwater Tribune reports that responses to the proposal were mixed.

Responses were primarily neutral to supportive of IDL purchasing timberland or farmland to benefit the endowments.
