Boise Fire Chief and Ada County Sheriff want to ban more fireworks

Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan and Ada County Sheriff Stephen Bartlett want to make it illegal to buy and sell all aerial fireworks in Idaho. Under current law, these fireworks can be legally bought and sold in some places in Idaho, but can not be legally used in most places.

The Idaho Statesman reports:

“I am going to propose that we change the law,” Doan said.

Idaho Food Police: No giving out free food without permits

It’s been said that “licenses and permits are how government sells you back the freedom it has stolen from you,” and Idaho’s updated food code is a good example of this process.

As of July 1st, Idaho is implementing an updated food code that creates a host of new regulations including the prohibition on giving away free food.

“Anybody serving or giving away food to the public, whether it be a promotional event at, say, a business – those people are required to obtain a license.”

Environmental health specialist Nathan Taylor, of Eastern Idaho Public Health apparently thinks being the food police is funny.

Nanny State: Phoenix proposes hiking ban during hot temperatures

Phoenix may close hiking trails in its more than 40,000 acres of desert preserves during intense heat that statewide already has claimed several lives this summer.

Temperatures reaching 110 degrees would prompt the closure of city trails for people, through a policy under consideration this week. Dogs would be stopped from hiking when the mercury hits 100 degrees.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board, which has authority to implement the rules, will consider the change Thursday.

Paddleboarders without life jackets, invasive species stickers face fines

How crazy has the government gone this time? It has decided that paddle boards are considered to be a “vessel” when they are used outside of a swimming, surfing, or a bathing area.

What does that mean? It means that paddleboarders must have the following things on every paddleboard:

  1. A U.S. Coast Guard certified life jacket of proper fit and size.
  2. A sound producing device such as a whistle or foghorn.

Idaho law: Plant the wrong potato, go to jail

Idaho, the state with “FAMOUS POTATOES” emblazoned on its license plate, has a law on the books which says that planting a regular potato (such as you would buy in the grocery state) can land you in jail.

Chapter 5, title 22, Idaho Code requires that only “certified” potatoes or potatoes that are “no more than one (1) generation from their own certified parent seed potatoes” may be planted in Idaho.
