Little Sisters of the Poor Just Beat Obama at the Supreme Court

While the consensus view seems to be that the Supreme Court “punted” today by sending the Little Sisters of the Poor case back to the lower courts, I must respectfully dissent. Although the Court didn’t rule on the merits of the case, the Little Sisters won a significant victory — one that is likely (though not yet certain) to persist through the next administration.

First, the Supreme Court vacated the lower court ruling holding that the Little Sisters had to facilitate access to contraceptives and denied that the mandate substantially burdened their religion.

Supreme Court Declares Massuchesetts Stun Gun Ban Unconstitutional

The Obama administration’s quest for stricter gun restrictions was dealt a blow Monday with the Supreme Court’s decision that Massachusetts’ ban on stun guns violated the constitutional rights of individuals to bear arms.

NBC reports:

The U.S Supreme Court Monday wiped out a Massachusetts court ruling that had upheld the conviction of a Massachusetts woman who carried a stun gun for protection from an abusive former boyfriend.

Why gun owners should be wary of Merrick Garland

Obama has nominated Judge Merrick Garland to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by the unexpected (and suspicious) death of Justice Antonin Scalia. There are a lot of reasons why conservatives should be concerned about this selection, but gun owners should be especially wary.

While Garland’s history related to the Second Amendment is not extensive, what does exist points to exactly the attitude you would expect from an Obama appointee.

Presidio County judge Cinderela Guevara, a local justice of the peace, told the Associated Press that she declared the 79-year-old Justice Antonin Scalia dead of “natural causes” without seeing the body herself, after having “consulted with Scalia’s personal physician and sheriff’s investigators, who said there were no signs of foul play.”

She initially determined that an autopsy should be conducted, but says she changed her mind after speaking with Scalia’s doctor — who confirmed that the justice had a history of heart trouble and other illnesses.

Conservative Stalwart SCOTUS Justice Antonin Scalia Dies Unexpectedly, Liberals Celebrate

Conservatives and gun owners were dealt a significant blow with the news that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, arguably the Court’s most conservative justice, died unexpectedly in his sleep Friday night, while vacationing on a ranch in Texas. He was 79 years old.

Scalia will be remembered for many significant decisions (and biting dissents), but perhaps his most impactful was the 5-4 decision in District of Columbia v.
