A woman was shot and killed early Sunday outside a short-term rental on Boise’s West Bench after a passing sedan opened fire on a house party, police said. Investigators have not named a suspect or a motive, and they are asking people who left the gathering before officers arrived to come forward.
Boise Police and Boise Fire were called just before 6 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 3900 block of West Clement Road. Officers found an adult woman with a gunshot wound on the front porch. Firefighters and Ada County paramedics tried to save her. She died at the scene. No one else was reported injured.
Police said a large group was still inside when first responders arrived. Officers locked down the block, emptied the house, cleared every room, and interviewed people who remained on scene. The victim’s name has not been released. The Ada County coroner is expected to identify her after relatives are notified.
According to investigators, the house was operating as a vacation rental, and a party was underway when an unidentified driver in a sedan-style vehicle fired multiple rounds at the residence and fled. Detectives from the Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit have been canvassing the neighborhood for cameras, leftover partygoers, and other leads.
Anyone who was at the home before or during the shooting and left before police arrived is asked to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790. The case remains open.
California-style Crime
Census figures showed more than 17,000 Californians relocating to Idaho in 2023 alone. Idaho Transportation Department data counted about 13,400 California driver’s license trades in 2025. Many of those newcomers tell real-estate agents they left because they no longer felt safe at home. And, of course, those are just the legal residents moving here. The influx of illegal aliens is even more significant.
Longtime Idaho residents are increasingly worried that unchecked growth, the proliferation of short-term rentals, and imported urban habits are bringing the problems people moved here to escape.
Treasure Valley LEOs have documented Norteño-linked activity with Northern California roots, including earlier drive-by cases in Canyon County. None of that has been tied publicly to the Clement Road killing. Police have not said where the shooter came from, whether the party was connected to a gang dispute, or whether the rental listing itself played any role beyond putting a crowd on a quiet street after midnight.
Fatal drive-by shootings used to be the kind of incident Idahoans treated as news from somewhere else, but now it’s happening in Boise.
